The Spec Issue Empty The Spec Issue

Post  Bo Thu Oct 23, 2008 11:46 am

So do we have any word on what's good raid-wise for specs? When I get Undeth to 70, my plan was to spec out of SL/SL (a great solo'ing and leveling spec, yes, I know, PvP , too) and into Destro with the appropriate hit and crit. But I've heard say that Destro has lost it's luster with a stronger emphasis on fire-based damage. Some say that Affliction is the way to go, and others say hitting the end-spec Demo is pretty win. Anyone got any insight?

I found my new spec on this page;
http://www.wowwiki.com/Warlock_builds

I simply love Affliction, but I wanted to utilize my Shadow Bolt more so I chose the Affliction Crit 45/0/16.
Other than the fact that I got a few items from SSC and ZA the other nights, my DPS has improved dramatically.
Also something that helped me significantly in Kara last night was my spell rotation. Use Unstable Affliction, Corruption, a curse and then spam Shadow Bolt until you need to refresh dots. Worked pretty good last night and I have already jumped up the threat meters to top 3 (dps) whereas using every dot in my arsenal was hindering me a ton.
Hope that helps.

Yeah, there's a lot to consider. My lock isn't geared at all. Traditionally, raiding locks would stay affliction until they had enough crit gear in their bags to switch to a Destro build (and incorporate demonic sacrifice). Now it looks like the Destro tree tends to favor fire damage more than shadowbolt.

Currently, I'm SL/SL. A PvP spec, sure, but it's great for survivability and it has a lot of versatility. I don't top dps in instances, but i do well. In AoE situations I'll just dot everything up with CoE and Corruption, then rain of fire for the crits. In longer fights, I'll use a deep dot rotation with CoD/CoE/CoA, SL, Corr, Immo, then go through a rotation of Searing Pain, the other fire spell (lol), drain life, and shadow bolt if my Nightfall or Glyph procs. Rinse and repeat.

It all really depends on play style. I still have a lot of questing and grinding to get done, so I'm considering staying SL/SL, but haven't quite decided. >.> lol

I think you might have something there when you talk about fire. I checked out one of the best Warlocks I know from Doomhammer and here he is and his spec:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Doomhammer&n=Blickz

Pure Fire! I can't imagine what his Soul Fire crits for. drooooooooooool

If for some reason his spec is gone or changed here it is:

I also have a friend that lives close by that I can get a lot of the new secrets towards Locks. His char is Bonespike:

MMMM! Looks like fun!

I prefer the 0/0/0 faceroll spec on my lvl 44 lock. Who cares about what type of dmg you are doing with this all inclusive spec. I constantly finish in the top 5 dps in instances and I get top damage in bg's. It is the ONLY spec you should consider.

LOL Fabe makes a good point. Whats the point rolling a lock if you are going to actually pay attention to what you are doing?

lol. L2warlock, my friends.

Currently trying out a 51/10 affliction spec (Stam, Imp, and Int). I imagine Destro (new style) still needs the crit % to function remotely like it used to. I had tried the 51/5/5 (for Bane), but honestly, reduced cast Shadowbolt is just dumb for affliction. Get yourself 2 ranks in Nightfall and the Corruption Glyph and you get all the insta-cast SBs you could ever hope for. I still have to look at the difference in damage output between SB and Incinerate with all the added Affli shadow damage dealies I have going on.

But yeah, so far 51/10 is being nice to me. Of course it was a significant upgrade from my sl/sl demo survival spec.
